RECYCLED T-SHIRT SCARF

Don't throw away your old t-shirt. here is an idea how to make fun and unique scarf using this easy pattern.

1. For this scarf i used two different shades of red t-shirts, white cotton yarn and two yellow buttons.

2. Cut the t-shirt in long strip approximately 1/2" wide. the width can be bigger depending on the thickness of the shirt. it needs to be wide enough so it doesn't tear.

3. roll the long strip into ball.

4. the pattern is simple. cast 15 stitches. first row knit second row knit and add stitch after every knit so at the end you have 30 stitches. third row knit reverse and release every added stitch from the previous row. repeat second and third rows until you reach the desired length.

5. mixing other colors or yarn will add some additional detailing onto the scarf. I left the knots and ends exposed.

6. when finished add two decorative buttons or wear as is.

I LOVE knitting with T shirt yarn! It goes so fast and looks so funky. Haven't had much luck with selling it in my recycled-yarn shop though. Thanks for the tutorial!

I'm a little confused. Are you meaning to yarn over, then drop the stitches in the next row? I'm not sure what you mean by knit reverse.
Thanks

Thank you for the tutorial!! It is such a great idea. I was thinking that I could mix different materials (some t-shirts and some wool) and make into a nice knitted cushion cover!
Thank you! :D

LazyTcrochet, yes you drop all cast on stitches from the previous row. you will create the gaps that way.

i really like this trashy looking scarf. i get lot of compliments when i wear it. plus it's a good way to recycle my husband's old shirts.
rugs and slippers are also fun projects. i will post some free patterns for these also.
